Got a spark for a good lightning photo? Don't hide it on your hard drive! Upload it to azstarnet.com for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate.
Earlier this year, the National Weather Service redefined the monsoon season; instead of computing it by dew point, the season now lasts from June 15 to Sept. 30. We'll use somewhat of that date range for our contest. We'll take photo submissions from June 15 until Aug. 31, and then allow voting until Sept. 15. (NOTE: Originally this said Sept. 30, that was a mistake - it will be September 15.)
The top winner will get the gift certificate (from an electronics store) and will have his or her photo published in the Star on September 28, along with photos from several runners-up.
Rules for submission
- Submit your best photo of lightning. Only one entry per person.
- The photo must be taken in southern Arizona.
- The photo you submit must have been taken by you or an immediate family member
- All submissions will be viewed within 48 hours of upload.
For more rules and eligibility requirements, click on the "Official Rules" tab on the bottom of this page.
How does it work?
After the submission deadline passes, the Star will post applicable photos for voting. When the voting begins you can view the photos under the "Vote" tab and vote for your favorite.
Can I still play if the contest has already started?
Yes. As long as it is still within the voting period.
