Maybe it’s that photo of a grizzly you snapped from an Alaskan tour bus. Or that moment of joy you captured as your Beagle-mix frolicked on a Southern California dog beach. Even the image of your significant other striking a pose near the bull sculpture on Wall Street would count.
For this summer’s Arizona Daily Star travel photo contest, ALL SHOTS MUST INCLUDE THE IMAGE OF AT LEAST ONE NON-HUMAN CREATURE.
The contest is open to Southern Arizona residents and runs through Aug. 31. There is no limit to the number of photos you can enter.
Entries must be accompanied by the photographer’s name, telephone number and email address, along with a sentence about who and what is in the photo. Participants also have up to 250 words to describe the story behind the photo, including how it was taken. If you have questions, call Inger Sandal at 573-4131, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Yes. The top photos will be published in the Sunday ¡Vamos! section in September. Rick Wiley, the Star’s director of photography, will pick his favorites. The photographer whose photo is chosen as Editor's Pick will win a photography class of the winner’s choice at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum Art Institute (valued at $50 to $190. Expires May 30, 2012. Adults 18 or over.) And new this year, readers will select their top choices by popular vote.

Discover your talent as an artist or draw for fun, while you enjoy the surroundings at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (desertmuseum.org/arts/). The Art Institute offers individual classes as well as a certificate of completion program in nature illustration. The unique backdrop of the Museum becomes your classroom while you learn to draw birds, mammals, insects and botanicals. You can also participate in a wide variety of classes and workshops including oil painting, field sketching, watercolor and photography.
Instructors are experienced, professional artists; known throughout the Tucson community and/or nationally recognized. Whether you sample a few classes or complete the certificate program, you will increase your appreciation and knowledge of the desert and take away skills that will last a lifetime.
